2024 Olympics - Day 3 Artistic Gymnastics Event Finals

Today marks the final day of the Artistic Gymnastics competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Event Finals on the Parallel Bars and Horizontal Bars for the Men and the Balance Beam and Floor Exercise for the Women. Emilie LePennec performed today's coup de baton. We start with Men's Parallel Bars - can China's ZOU Jingyuan retain his title? Illia Kovtun - still hard to believe he's only about to turn 21 (Happy early Birthday!), slight bobble, hop back on dismount but otherwise very clean routine. ZHANG Boheng - very clean routine, very low in the dismount, and a hop on the landing. Ferhat Arican - few arches in the back throughout the routine, solid dismount! Wataru Tanigawa - big travels on Felger half, slight overarch in handstands, lovely straddle front, deep squat on the dismount. Oleg Verniaiev - Small problem to begin the routine, not maintaining the handstand position for long enough, looks like he clipped his feet on the bar and comes off, stuck dismount. ZOU Jingyuan - Phenomenal routine! Lukas Dauser - my internet skipped and I only caught his dismount which had a few steps. Clips left rail. Shinnosuke Oka - great routine and stuck dismount. China's ZOU Jingyuan retains his Olympic title on the Parallel Bars. Ukraine's Illia Kovtun wins the silver medal with Japan's Shinnosuke Oka taking the bronze.

ZHOU Yaqin - grabs the beam on her jump series, a small hesitation in the routine, otherwise a lovely routine. Lovely green and white leotard with diamantes. Sunisa Lee - in the white leotard, looks stunning. Fall on her acro series, bobble on split leap, small step on dismount. Julia Soares - lovely pink and purple leotard with diamantes galore including patterning on the front, hesitant in connection, composed herself and puts her hands down on the beam but comes off, remounts, and performs a nice dismount. Manila Esposito - minor bobble, but saves it, stuck double pike dismount. Both Italians are wearing purple and black leotard with diamantes. Sabrina Maneca-Voinea - off on roundoff full twist, lovely light blue and white leotard, has another fall, lovely combo double tuck dismount to finish. Long delay for the score. Alice D'Amato - solid on her mount series, small bobble on her leap combination, small form errors, double wolf turn, stuck 2.5 twist dismount. She's guaranteed a medal! Simone Biles - white and blue leotard with silver diamantes, solid, misses on her acro series and is off, sticks her dismount. This apparatus final is rough. Long delay. Rebeca Andrade - Same leo as Soares. Starts strongly, small bobble, arm adjustment on change leg ring, lovely full turn, small hop back on double pike dismount. Biles got 0.3 deduction for not saluting properly at the end of her routine. Italy finishes 1st and 3rd with Alice D'Amato earning the gold medal and Manila Esposito winning the bronze. China's ZHOU Yaqin won the silver medal. 

We move on to the high-flying Horizontal Bar final. TANG Chia-Hung - lovely combo release sequence, falls on his next release, repeats the release, and finishes strong. Shinnosuke Oka - solid routine with a stuck dismount. Angel Barajas - what a routine, some execution deductions in the routine. Marios Georgiou - Falls on his dismount, the only issue in an otherwise solid routine. Takaaki Sugino - somewhat of a nasty fall but remounts, works hard to finish his routine, puts hands down on the dismount. ZHANG Boheng - Strong routine on the bar, releases early, and puts hands down on the mat. Tin Srbic -falls and reaches for his arm/elbow, he's going to remount. Another mistake and comes off the bar. He's getting back up. Stuck dismount. One to come and Colombian Angel Barajas is guaranteed a medal! SU Weide - what have we watched? Another routine performed well, until he comes unstuck on the dismount. Japan's Shinnosuke Oka is the 2024 Olympic Champion on Horizontal Bar with Barajas winning the silver. China's ZHANG Boheng and TANG Chia-Hung tie for the bronze medal. 

And lucky last - the Women's Floor Final. Esposito - knees down on double layout. Andrade - gorgeous aqua leotard with all the diamantes and sparkley patterning, combo to full in back out, solid in her tumbling, double pike to finish. OU Yushan - out of bounds 2.5 punch front. Rina Kishi - love thos geometric patterning black, blue and white leotard. Double twisting double back to begin, looks to land out on her second pass, lovely triple wolf turn, hop out of attempted double turn with leg up, lovely leaps. Chiles is in the white leotard and Biles is in red and blue leotard with diamantes. Teal leotard for Barbosu, who is up next. Expressive dance, whip to full in back out, step out of bounds on her third pass, solid final pass. Alice D'Amato - double-double, one foot out on triple, good routine. Simone Biles - out of bounds on her second pass, and out on her double layout final pass. Maneca-Voinea - double-double, double layout punch front, some slight landing adjustments in her remaining tumbling lines. Jordan Chiles - bounce backwards on her first pass, clean second pass, small step on double layout. Brazilian Rebeca Andrade wins the 2024 Olympic Floor Tile over Simone Biles (USA) with wait - an inquiry has been submitted for Chiles. Oh my goodness!!!! She's done it - SUCCESSFUL! She's won the bronze!!!!!!!!!!

Day 2 EF - 2024 MAG Asian Championships

Today marks the final day of competition at the Asian MAG Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The Senior Men's Vault, Parallel Bars and Horizontal Bar finals will be contested along with all six finals for the Junior Men (see separate post) for the Junior results. I had commitments for the final three finals for the Juniors, so will update the post with the scores when I can. ` Okay, Vault time. TRINH Hai Khang - Solid first vault, huge second vault but has to take a large step back. Juancho Miguel Besana - I missed his first vault but judging by the score it was great! Second vault - great in the air, just a step off to the side. Carlos Edriel Yulo - solid - just low chest on the landing of his first vault; Floats in the air on his second vault, small sideways step on the landing. NG Chun Chen - huge flight but cannot control the landing, goes out of bounds and into the wall on his first vault; lands to his feet but then falls backwards on his second vault. 2024 Olympics - Gymnasts Chosen as Closing Ceremony Flag Bearers

Cyprus' Vera Tugolukova, who finished 16th in the Rhythmic Gymnastics All-Around competition.
