Day 1 EF - 2024 MAG Asian Championships

Competition begins on the Floor Exercise for the first day of the Apparatus Finals at the 2024 Men's Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships. Big hop on the second pass for Carlos Edriel Yulo. Solid through the remainder of the routine. Long wait for his score. His compatriot John Ivan Cruz is up next: Solid tumbling, hop forward on his front twisting pass, a good routine for him otherwise. Kazakhstan's Dmitriy Patanin - hop out of bounds on his first pass, some big tumbling and a solid routine. I feel like the lighting kept changing on him. Erkhembayar Usukhbayar - lands out of bounds on his first pass and a step back on the second pass, lovely spindles, looks like he steps out on his penultimate pass and a step to the side and low in his final pass. Abdulaziz Mirvaliev - the home crowd goes wild! A large hop forward on his first pass, manages to stay in bounds, and produces some great work. Slight bobble on the final pass. YANG Yanzhi - Powerful and quick tumbler, two hops back on the landing of his second pass, low in a couple of his landings but a solid routine. Utkirbek Juraev - His passes are very floating, too much power and he lands out of bounds on his third pass, a great save on his penultimate pass, and a hop back on his final tumbling pass. Quite a long wait to determine his score. Milad Karimi - steps forward on his first diagonal pass, and squats in the landing of his second, otherwise a lovely routine for Milad. The 2024 Asian Champion on the Floor Exercise is the Philippines' Carlos Edriel Yulo with Kazakhstan's Milad Karimi and China's YANG Yanzhi finishing second and third respectively.

We move on to what I am sure is going to be a heated competition on the Pommel Horse. Abdulla Azimov - he swings well, looked a little wild in the middle of the routine but solid. Ahmad Habeeb - another wait for the score. Quite a tall gymnast, who also swings and travels well on the horse, bit of a struggle to get into the handstand for the dismount. Milad Karimi - his coach has chalked up and set up the pommel horse. Slight overarch in his handstand, he recovers to swing well, seems to be a bit wild in the middle of the routine, and has a fight for the dismount. Quite a discussion with the coach after that routine. YIN Dehang - slight issues with his handstand and seemed like it took him a second to get into the routine, comes off the pommel horse, remounts with 2 seconds on the remount clock, and finishes the routine. It's no secret that I am a huge fan of Kurbanov and Ahmad Abu Al Soud. Kurbanov warms up with his team shirt on. DANG Ngoc Xuan Thien - a good start to the routine, slight form break in the middle but recovers strong. Ahmad Abu Al Soud - another wait between routines. Great routine but has trouble with his dismount. TIAN Hao - solid routine, lovely work at the end of the horse. Nariman Kurbanov - what a cool customer this guy seems. SOLID!!!! The 2024 Pommel Horse Asian Champion is Kazakhstan's Nariman Kurbanov who dominates on the apparatus. Uzbekistan's Abdulla Azimov takes second place with Jordan's Ahmad Abu Al Soud winning the bronze medal due to the tiebreak rule.

The last senior apparatus final for the day is on Still Rings. Carlos Edriel Yulo - overarch in his handstands and hops back on his dismount. NGUYEN Van Khanh Phong - swings well, a slight sway in his iron cross, and looks like he has to fight for his handstand, holds on to the dismount. Ally Hamuda Abdullah - great fight throughout his routine, very overarched in one of his final handstands, small hop on the dismount. YANG Yanzhi - had some lovely positions, but also some form issues throughout the routine. Mohammadreza Khosronezhad - small issues with some of his handstands and a large step and low in the landing of his dismount. LIN Guan-Yi - beautiful form, slight bobble on his handstand, recovers strong, stuck dismount! YIN Dehang - Solid routine, massive fight on the dismount, cue aeroplane arms! LEE Jangwon - another gymnast who struggled with his handstands, great fight, hop on the dismount. Really long wait for the final score. China's YIN Dehang win the Still Rings title over Vietnam's NGUYEN Van Khanh Phong and China's YANG Yanzhi who tie for the silver medal.
