2024 BRICS Games - Day One Event Finals

Today saw the first day of event finals at the 2024 BRICS Games in Kazan, Russia.

Belarussian Yahor Sharamkou took out the Floor Exercise over the Russian Federation's Nikita Nagornyy, with Belarussian compatriot Yaraslau Krutau taking out the bronze medal. Was a tough final for Kazakhstan's Alisher Toibazarov who went out of bounds and put his hands down on landing short on his penultimate pass. Yahor Sharamkou, showed such power and solid landings in all of his tumbling passes. Yaraslau Krutau - Started solidly, not as clean in the landings as his compatriot but a solid routine.  He was wrapped with that effort! Nagornyy is up next. Oh it seems that the Women's vault competitors are out on the competition floor watching already. Step out of bounds on second pass for Nagornyy and deep/low chest in the landing of his third pass, great final pass. Nagornyy originally scored a 13.866, however it seems a successful petition was made to increase his score. Artur Dalaloyan - lands on the line for his second pass, and was out of bounds on his first pass and just some small steps/hops on his landings, and low chest on his final twisting pass. Nagornyy leaves the arena straight after his routine. Damdindorj - lots of power and either hops forward or backward out of his tumbling passes, solid routine for him. Rustambek Nematov - starts with a solid double tuck as a side pass, fumbles out of his second and third tumbling passes and step on his final pass. Aleksandr Bazzaev - has some power, just needs to work on cleaning up his landings. Nagornyy is shown up in the stands.

On the Women's Vault, Russian Federation's Anna Kalmykova won the title over compatriot Angelina Melnikova with Uzbekistan's Jasmina Makhmudova finishing in third. You can tell that Melnikova is a broadcast favourite as they keep panning over to her. Lovely deep blue leotard for Melnikova with silver diamantes on the front and sleeves. Busy black leotard with pink and lots of diamante patterning for Kira Maharevich. Aqua/teal leotard for Kalmykova - interesting patterning/design - with white and black diamantes, until I saw a close up, personally not sure I was a fan. Jasmina Makhmudova - sleeveless shiny purple/pink leotard of different shades. Red and white leotard for Solikha Tursunboeva. Love the effort that the children went into their signs of support. Although we missed Maharevich's solid first vault, step on the landing; puts up another great vault for her second. Makhmudova - beautiful first vault, she seems so light in the air; not the most difficult vaults, but she performs them well. Melnikova - she even salutes with finesse. Massive distance on her first vault but hop backwards; same with the second vault. Kalmykova - low in the landing and step on the landing of her first vault; small step on the second vault (looks like she shook her head as she landed). Tursunboeva - small step forward on the landing of her vaults, again not the most difficult and small form issues but a solid effort.

Russian Federation's Vladislav Polyashov took out the Pommel Horse final over Diyas Toihsybek of Kazakhstan and Mongolia's Enkhtuvshin Damdindorj. Bazzaev - loses his momentum and hands and falls onto the horse, didn't look comfortable. David Belyavskiy - lovely work on one handle, looks a little wild in his travels across the horse and hands slip and he too comes off the horse, remounts, and finishes his routine. Damdindorj - solid routine for him. Polyashov - oh I love watching his coach "ride" the routine with him. Great routine! Awww I loved seeing the images of Belyavskiy with his daughter Alyssia - so beautiful and heartwarming. Toishybek - swings and travels well, has a small form break towards the end of the routine. Toibazarov - seemed like a tough routine for him, some form breaks throughout the routine and it looked a bit laboured. Sharamkou - started solidly, but seemed to lose his momentum and sits on the horse, not the most difficult routine. Muhmmadali Tursunaliev - there were some form issues but a good effort from him.

On the Uneven Bars, Angelina Melnikova (Russian Federation) narrowly took the title over compatriot Leyla Vasilyeva, with Belarussian Alena Tsitavets not far behind in third (0.522 from first place). Thailand's Sasiwimon Mueangphuan did not compete. Melnikova changed her leotard from the blue to the red variation of the leotard. Purple, lilac and white leotard with diamantes for Tsitavets. The aqua/teal leotard for Vasilyeva. Leg form breaks throughout but a really nice effort from Tursunboeva. Tsitavets - Small bobble on her opening work on the low bar, and slight leg separation on her dismount, but a lovely routine. Sleeveless white leotard with red and blue? with diamantes for Aleksandra Maksimova - leg separation and has to muscle up on her transition from the low to high bar, also some form breaks. I am not sure I am a fan of the dramatic red eye shadow? Personal preference though. Vasilyeva - overarches a handstand on the low bar, and a small hop on the dismount, but otherwise a great routine! Melnikova - slight bobble in the middle of the routine but such a great routine! Maharevich - Missed handstand positions, small form issues, and a step on her dismount. Makhmudova - comes off the uneven bars, not her best event and had quite a few form issues, but good on her for getting out there and contesting the final.

Whilst on the Still Rings, Turkiye's Yunus Emre Gundogdu won the title over Russian Federation's Artur Dalaloyan and Daniel Marinov. Unfortunately, I missed this final.
