2021 Olympics - Day 1 of Event Finals

The first day of event finals is taking place at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre. Simone Biles of the United States has withdrawn and will be replaced by compatriot Mykayla Skinner in the Vault final and Melanie de Jesus dos Santos of France in the Uneven Bars final. We begin with Men's floor exercise: I feel as though Nikita had a rough routine. Zapata Santana - Front layout 1.5, deep squat combo front line, double pike half out, lovely tumbling, double layout. Moldauer - half in, half out, solid lines, falters on his flares, triple twist, hop back. Dolgopyat - double front half out, triple twisting double slight issues on landing, out of bounds and off centre, Russian swings, finishes with the stuck pass. KIM Hansol - double pike half out hop backward, hop forwards or backward on his next few passes, sits down on his non-acrobatic skills, deep and hop-forward on his final pass. Nervous start for the competitors. RYU Sunghyun - hop back on first two lines, massive double pike, half out, slight bobble and a good fight to stay in, step out of bounds, Russians, hop forward on the triple, 3.5 twists. XIAO Ruoteng - beautiful opening lines, stuck landings, quick flares work, SOLID! Karimi - Out of bounds on his 3.5, stuck first and third passes, almost slips and falls, good save, finishes solidly. Israel's Artem Dolgopyat makes history earning the 2021 Men's Olympic Floor title over Spain's Rayderley Miguel Zapata Santana with China's XIAO Ruoteng earning the bronze medal.

Women's Vault! Mykayla wears the patriotic USA Leotard with silver diamante stars. Moreno Medina wears a gorgeous red leotard with silver diamante patterning. Skinner - Cheng - great form and a hop back on the landing. Yurchenko 2.5 - slight bobble on the landing. Moreno Medina - Handspring front 1.5 twist - solid in the air and hop on landing. Leg separation. Tsukahara double - solid. Andrade wears white with light pink and black and silver stripes and diamantes. Slightly off direction on her Cheng. The second vault upgraded in her program to the 2.5 twist - sky high with a massive couple of hops forward and slightly off on the horse. Carey wears a black leotard with rose gold, diamantes, and mesh sleeves. Shuffled feet in her run. Performs a tucked Yurchenko. Step forward on the landing of her second vault. YEO Seojeong - Short-sleeved navy blue leotard with white and red patterning with silver diamantes. YEO vault - deep squat and hops forward but she lands it!!! Second vault - Massives steps backward on the landing. Shallon Olsen - GORGEOUS LEOTARD!! Low on the landing and steps sideways. Double twist. Solid. Melnikova - blue and white leotard with diamantes. Great double twist!! Shoulders low and steps forward on the landing. Akhaimova - Red and white leotard with red, white, and silver diamantes. Handspring front layout 1.5 - hands low on the horse and big step back. Tsukahara double twist - good vault, hop back. Rebeca Rodrigues de Andrade wins the Olympic Vault title over USA's Mykayla Skinner with the Republic of Korea's YEO Seojeong winning the bronze.

Pommel Horse sets to be an exciting final! Whitlock - solid routine to open, the potential for a small form deduction. Yoder - Small bobble on the opening, puts his hand down - settles into the routine well.  SUN Wei misses the pommel handle, taps his legs on the handle, and comes off. Finishes strong. Belyavskiy - Muscle up on final handstand but a great routine. LEE Chih Kai - SOLID!!!!!! Kazuma Kaya - good routine! Come on Rhys. Ohhh he's off. Devastated. Leg separation but stays on. Kohei Kameyama - slight form and leg separation, struggled with the press up to handstand. Max Whitlock of Great Britain takes the 2021 Olympic Pommel Horse title. Chinese Taipei's LEE Chih Kai won the silver medal over Japan's Kazuma Kaya.

The final event of the day is Women's Uneven Bars. Lee - the gorgeous navy leotard with gold and diamantes. Solid routine, a couple of form issues. Melanie de Jesus dos Santos - Navy blue leotard with white diamante patterning. Great swing, steps back on double layout full out dismount, had to insert some extra pirouettes. Nina Derwael - what a gorgeous leotard. Not her best routine. Iliankova - Red and white leotard with silver diamantes. A couple of form issues, but a good routine. Melnikova - issues with the start of her routine, missed part of the routine, and jumps off the bar. Purple leotard - stunning. FAN Yilin - solid routine but sits down her dismount which is named after her. Lovely red leotard with the white flower patterning. LU Yufei - red leotard with silver diamante flowers. solid releases, great routine! The last routine belongs to Elisabeth Seitz. Nude and blue leotard with diamantes. Attacks the routine, late pirouette on the dismount and only just managed the dismount with a hop sidewards. Nina Derwael wins the Uneven Bars title over Russia's Anastasiia Iliankova with USA's Sunisa Lee earning the bronze medal.
